OMS – Chasing the World Sailing Speed Record

SP80 and OMS HydraulicsOcean Marine Systems (OMS) has been named as a Technical Supplier for the record-breaking SP80 Project based in Switzerland. OMS is working to develop and supply unique lightweight hydraulic cylinders that will help the projects aim to reach 80 knots using wind as its sole source of power (current record stands at 65.45 knots).

Using the principles of sailing, kitesurfing and engineering, the boat capable of reaching 80 knots is currently in build and is set to be launched by summer 2022.

“We are delighted to be named as a Technical Supplier in a project that will see a 100m stretch of water covered in just 2.43 seconds,” comments Mark Barwell Sales Director for OMS. “The road to 80 knots is a real challenge and OMS is delighted to be on board for the journey.”

“OMS’ abilities to offer custom designs and to manufacture all products in-house are huge assets in developing the specific hydraulic solutions that we need for our boat,” says Mayeul van den Broek co-founder of SP80. “We are very pleased to benefit from the technical expertise of the OMS team on this quest to break the world sailing speed record! ”
